In the wake of the oil discovery in commercial quantity in Ghana, a lot has been said and written about the benefits of the oil to the Ghanaian economy.  Little however, has been said about the potential human rights implications it will have on the communities along the Coast from where the oil will be explored.  CEPIL undertook a study in three towns in three districts in the Western Region of Ghana.

The communities are: Axim in the Nzema East District, Half Assini in the Jomoro (Western Nzema) District and Asanta in the Ellembelle District.  The study was conducted to determine the extent to which, the operations of oil and gas firms will impact on the human rights of communities along the Western Coast of Ghana in respect to their health, environment, livelihood and social development.
