This case involves some farmers in Kobeda whose crops were destroyed by Goldfields Ghana Ltd a mining Company in Tarkwa in the Western Region of Ghana.

In 1999 the Company destroyed the Plaintiffs crops and buildings situated on portions of land the Company claims to have Mining Lease to mine on.

The Company counted and paid compensation for some of the crops and buildings on the said lands, but refused to count all the economic crops of the Plaintiffs on the lands including some mature ones.

Goldfields (Gh) Ltd claimed the said crops were fraudulently planted with the aim to claim compensation from the Company. The company also claims some of the residents were illegal tenants on the land.

The plaintiff brought this action in the High Court, Tarkwa against the Company to compel the Company to pay the appropriate compensation for the destroyed economic crops.

The case is ripe for judgment.
