The Center for Public Interest Law (CEPIL) is a non-partisan, not-for-profit Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) dedicated to making the pursuit of justice accessible and affordable for poor and marginalized communities and individuals. Our mission is to advocate for public interest litigation, advocacy, promote human rights, and ensure legal assistance is available to those who need it most but cannot afford.
Scope of the Video Documentary
We are seeking a creative and professional video production expert/team to produce a video documentary that highlights human rights violations, experiences of community members as well as concerns of host-mining communities regarding effects of the Mining Company’s operations on various aspect.
TERMS OF REFERENCE FOR THE VIDEO DOCUMENTARY
A. SCOPE/COVERAGE AREAS
The video documentary should cover mining operational sites in Ghana namely:
I. The Ahafo Region and
II. The Akyem mine project
The Ahafo mine site Location:
The video documentary should gather stories and experiences from selected affected persons sampled from the Ahafo mines operations in the Ahafo North Project, such as:
1. Terchire,
2. Yamfo,
3. Afrisipakrom,
4. Susuanso and
5. Adrobaa in the Tano North Municipality
The Akyem mine project Location:
The video documentary should also gather stories and experiences from selected affected persons sampled from the Akyem mines operations. The Akyem mine operates within 10 host communities in the Birim North District of Ghana’s Eastern Region namely:
1. Adausena,
2. Yaw Tano,
3. Old Abirem,
4. New Abirem,
5. Hweakwae,
6. Tano,
7. Afosu,
8. Mamanso,
9. Ntronang and
10. Yayaaso.
B. THEMATIC AREA/FOCUS
The main guiding themes of the video documentary should include but not limited to
1. Access to land by the mining company
2. Unfair compensation and resettlement package (What does the law say)
3. Narrowed civic space
4. Abuse of human rights. Human Rights and Environmental Justice
5. Restricted access to land and economic rights for women
6. Erosion of Free Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC). This Illustrating how to ensure rights are respected in land and resource decisions, while fostering more sustainable and equitable practices within the mining value chains.
C. SOURCES /CATEGORIES OF INFORMATION
1. Qualitative and anecdotal evidence from affected persons
2. Review of financial statements; reports and records of financiers of the mining company
3. Assessment of court records and impacts of operations and grievance reports against the mining company and other countries.
4. Media information on operations of the mining company
D. Duration:
The video will be approximately 15-20 minutes long, with shorter versions (3-5 minutes) created for online platforms and social media.
E. QUALITY OF DELIVERABLES:
The final documentary, along with teaser trailers and high-quality images capable of been used in print media, digital and for social media campaigns.
F. REQUIREMENTS FOR BIDDERS
• Proven experience in producing documentaries or impact story videos for NGOs or social justice causes.
• Strong storytelling abilities with a focus on human rights, social justice, or environmental issues.
• Ability to conduct interviews, travel to field locations, and capture high-quality footage in diverse settings.
• Capacity to deliver the final product in various formats, suitable for advocacy campaigns in both broadcast and digital platforms (social media).
G. DURATION
This consultancy should be delivered within a period of 2 months from the date of signing the agreement. The successful applicant should;
1. Be ready to sign contracts by 30/10/2024
2. Submit draft videos for review on the 29/11/2024
